WUFF is very excited to host and present two new performance works by Kelly O’Brien (Toronto, ON) and Kellie Bronikowski (Milwaukee, WI). Working with divergent media and varying degrees of opacity, O’Brien and Bronikowski each recall personal history and familial connection to craft intimate and reflective alternative cinema experiences. “I was desperate to copy life, to make some record, to give it some form.” -Sharon Olds.

Postings from Home dir. Kelly O'Brien
2017 | CA | 50 | digital slides + live narration | Manitoban premiere
A few years ago, Toronto-based filmmaker Kelly O’Brien began sharing pictures and personal moments on Facebook as a way of creating “a sketchbook of [her] life.” Eventually, this act would evolve into the media performance for projected stills and live voice narration, Postings from Home, performed at Pleasure Dome and the Images Festival in Toronto, and now here at WUFF. The (often simultaneous) joy and pain found in candid, intimate moments with family and in nature are recalled and reconfigured, annotated with quotes from readings on contemporary literature, feminism and eco-philosophy. With Postings from Home, O’Brien leans into a ubiquitous social networking platform to unearth seemingly limitless space for self-reflection and inspiration. -SF

Kelly O’Brien is an independent filmmaker and mother living in Toronto. She received an MFA in film production from York University. Her diary films have screened internationally.

Kellie Bronikowski is a moving imagery artist who received her BFA and MFA from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee in the Department of Film, Video, Animation and New Genres. She works in 16mm, super 8, digital video and performance. Her work often focuses on autobiographic and diaristic filmmaking, while current projects have turned toward wildlife and environmental conservation.
